Somewhere Else was inspired by George Romero's 1970's cult classic ‘Dawn of the Dead'. In Romero's cult classic, flesh eating Zombies take over a large American supermarket and the inhabited space takes on a deserted and surreal quality that comments upon the excess of consumerism.
Somewhere Else is a collage of images collected from a journey on the North Circular, London, to and around a large retail park. Footage has been digitally remixed and reordered to reveal a cityscape that has its own rhthym and energy. Both film and music evoke an implied narrative that is not only influenced by the genre of science fiction, but is tainted in atmosphere by the generic solelessness of retail parks.
