CURATION

Alongside my studio practice, I curate and organise exhibitions with a particular focus on moving image, performance, sculpture and installation. Since 2004 I have been a long-standing curator of Visions in the Nunnery, working alongside Cinzia Cremona and, in more recent years, Sophie Hill. The biennial has developed into a important platform for experimental practices, foregrounding innovative approaches to time-based media and live work.

Visions in the Nunnery offers an informed overview of the fast-evolving and provocative fields of moving image and performance, presenting work by artists from across the world. For each edition we present two to three curated programmes, led by invited artists renowned for their innovation in digital and performative practices. The ideas and approaches of these lead artists help shape the selection process and set the tone for the wider exhibition, creating a dynamic dialogue between established and emerging voices.

Established in 1999 by Chris Meigh-Andrews and Marcel Baettig, Visions has provided a vital platform for artists including Rosie Gibbens, Onyeka Igwe, Patrick Goddard, Oreet Ashery, Tacita Dean, Ori Gersht, Dryden Goodwin, Susan Hiller, Mikhail Karikis, Tina Keane, Lawrence Lek, Hetain Patel and Heather Phillipson—many shown at very early stages of their careers. Through its carefully structured programmes, Visions in the Nunnery offers audiences a distinctive experience of curated conversations between filmmakers and performance artists working internationally.

In addition to this, I am a member of the artist group Changeable Beast, through which I collaborate on the curation of sculpture and installation exhibitions. The group’s practice is rooted in collective thinking and experimentation, extending my curatorial work into spatial, material and site-responsive forms.
