Hey You! - Single screen video
The work is based on Westminster tube station, London The artist has reconstructed a CGI 3D model from the space which is populated with everyday footage of people using their, smart phones. The animated sequence takes the form of a POV fly-through a virtual drone that surveys the space.
The drone takes on a personality and the mindset of a menacing supervisor watching people, hovering over shoulders, playing with their attention and darting away to avoid detection. The work is created from a top down, dystopian perspective. The CGI flatness of the graphics creates a game like feel whilst the cuts in the edit to the coughing and finger clicking heightens the sense of control and invasion of personal space.
The work asks questions about an obsessed screen based culture, who is surveying who and the power and distribution of information.
